Graeme has worked in the college sector for over 25 years following a period in higher education as a Lecturer.
Initially he worked as a Lecturer and Senior Lecturer at Reid Kerr College before becoming a Further Education Officer with Strathclyde Regional Council.
Since 1991 Graeme has worked at Langside College in the south side of Glasgow, first as depute, and since 1999 as the Principal of the college.
In 2006, he was elected by fellow Principals in Scotland to serve on the Board of the Association of Scotland’s Colleges.
Since 2003 he has chaired the West of Scotland Colleges (European) Partnership.
In 2004 Graeme was appointed to the Ministerial Curriculum Review Group and is, more recently, a member of the Curriculum for Excellence Programme Board.
He represents Glasgow Colleges on the Glasgow Community Learning Strategy Partnership and is active in the South Glasgow community planning partnership.
In academic session 2007/08 Graeme led one of the Scotland’s Principals CPD Programme work streams (Horizon Scanning) and has led a number of seminars on the topic.
He remains a committed trade unionist and has been involved in supporting the establishment of Scottish Union Learning. Unusual for a college principal, he is a proud member of the Educational Institute of Scotland.
In the 2010 Queen’s Birthday Honours List, Graeme received an OBE for his services to the college sector.

Learning and teaching; quality improvement and enhancement. Why am I on the PLDF Scotland?
John has worked in the college sector for over 25 years and held posts in Cardonald, James Watt and Anniesland Colleges before joining HMIE in 2004. He now works as a HM Inspector of Education for Education Scotland whom he represents on the PLDF. He brings first hand experience of observing the practice and considering the outcomes of learning and teaching in colleges across Scotland. He was involved in the previous review of initial standards for teaching in colleges and the accompanying CPD standards. He was also involved in the validation panels for the resulting PDAs and units and the re-validation of TQ(FE) by teacher education institutions. |

Karen has been working in the further education sector for 18 years and has added a wide range of skills to her remit, for the past 6 years Karen has been working in the Commercial Development Section of the college which is working with businesses and focusing on developing projects for Small to Medium Enterprises. Karen has been an active member of the Unison Further Education Sector Committee since its inception in 2009 and has been its Chair for the past 21/2 years. |

Marian Healy, Sector Manager Scotland for Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK). LLUK is the Sector Skills Council for the lifelong learning sector. Marian’s responsibilities include: Developing effective working relationships and methods of engagement with Scottish employers within the six subsectors of the lifelong learning sector in Scotland: Career Guidance; Community Learning and Development; Further Education; Higher Education; Libraries, Archives and Information Services; and Work Based Learning; Ensuring the distinctiveness of the Scottish lifelong learning sector is understood within LLUK; Participating on all national occupational standards (NOS) review projects; ensuring adequate Scottish representation is identified for Project Steering Groups and/or Expert Working Groups and supporting focus group consultations for Scotland employers and practitioners.
Marian is also responsible for the development and/or refresh of SVQs and Modern Apprenticeship Frameworks within LLUK’s remit in Scotland. Marian represents LLUK on the Qualifications and Learning Group of the Alliance of Sector Skills Councils Scotland.
Prior to joining LLUK Marian was the National Officer for Further and Higher Education with the EIS. During that time Marian participated on many important Government Committees and Inquiries including the Independent Committee of Inquiry on Student Finance (Cubie) and the Review of Scotland’s Colleges (RoSCo) where she co-chaired the Staffing Learners and Learning Environments Group. |

John McCann Director - Next Practice Scotland's Colleges E-mail John McCann
John McCann’s career in education spans 30 years. After a brief period as a Teacher of Mathematics in a secondary school, he joined Dundee College of Technology as a lecturer in Computing where he was promoted to Senior Lecturer. He was seconded to a number of national roles before taking up appointment as an HMI – working closely with colleges through Incorporation and beyond. He took up a senior management position at Glenrothes College before moving to Scotland's Colleges (formerly SFEU) as Depute Chief Executive. He is currently Director of Next Practice at Scotland’s Colleges.
His experience is wide and extensive. He has a reputation for a thoughtful approach to his work and has written on many aspects of the work of colleges in the sector journal Broadcast and other publications. He has presented at numerous national and international conferences on the work of colleges.

Danny McDougall Staff Development Manager Anniesland College E-mail Danny McDougall
Danny joined the staff at Anniesland College as a Lecturer after a career in industry. Currently he holds the post of Staff Development Manager in the college. Danny has relevant, extensive and up to date experience of TQ(FE) as a Teacher fellow at the University of Stirling and an associated staff member of the TQ(FE) team at the University of Dundee. He is a member of the West of Scotland Staff Development Forum and has been involved in a range of projects supporting learning, teaching and assessment practice in the sector. Recently he completed the MEd TQ(FE) at the University of Stirling.

With over 20 years experience working in the Scottish FE sector as a lecturer and manager my key area of interest and expertise is in the professional development of staff. I believe that professional development is critical in building the capacity and culture of colleges through effective staff learning with an ultimate impact on the experience of learners and partners.
During the last ten years I have taken forward the responsibility for professional development at Carnegie College and have also held a number of external posts including Chair of the Professional Development Community of Practice, Vice-Chair of the Staff Development Collaborative Group and I am currently a steering group member of JISC RSC-NE and Dundee University TQ(FE) Programme Board. |

Until March 2011 he was Senior Lecturer Flexible Learning and Learning Resources at Anniesland College with responsibility for Cross-College Flexible Learning and the Virtual Learning Environment. Academic Staff member to the College Board of Management.
Served as elected FE (Further Education) representative to General Teaching Council Scotland (GTCS) (2010-11) and member of both GTCS Education and Professional Standards Committees.
An appointed member of the New GTCS Adjudicating Panels (April 2012).
Currently a member of Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS) Council, EIS FELA (Further Education Lecturers’ Association) National Executive and Convener of FELA Education and Equalities Sub-Committee and was the first fully accredited EIS FE Multi-Establishment Learning Representative.
EIS Branch Secretary at Anniesland College until February 2011.
A founder member of COLEG, and was a member of COLEG Board of Directors and Chair of the COLEG Operational Group.

Embarked on a career as a chef in my early working years in Ireland, England, Switzerland and Scotland.
College Lecturer at Edinburgh’s Telford College from 1978 – 1997 in Catering and Hospitality.
Transferred to the private sector in 1997 working in Learning and Development for 8 years.
Returned to FE in 2005 and took up my current role at a time of great change for our college where we were planning for a move to our new campus. As a member of the PLDF Scotland I am looking forward to contributing to work to enhance development opportunities for all college staff. |

Gus worked in the university sector in Scotland for twelve years before taking a career break to do two postgraduate degrees. On joining the Scottish Funding Council in 2001, he worked as Head of Secretariat and then Head of Corporate Governance before moving in 2011 to become a Senior Policy Officer with responsibility for, among other things, architecture of frameworks; qualifications; credit transfer; records of achievement; transitions; response to European and international structures and commitments; public information and staff development, particularly as this contributes to the quality of the learning experience.

Garry has over twenty years educational experience as a secondary school teacher and lecturer. He joined Scotland's Colleges (formerly SFEU) in 2005 and is now a Manager in the Next Practice Directorate. In this role his main areas of responsibility are: Learning Process, Professional Learning, Safeguarding, Learning materials development and working with young learners in college. Garry has responsibility for providing the secretariat function of the Professional Learning and Development Forum Scotland. |
